The parties now agree to have "preliminary contact" on Saturday and hold talks at the working group level, North Korea's Deputy Foreign Minister Choe Son-Hui said in a statement.

"I expect the negotiations to speed up the positive development for North Korea and the US relationship," she says without revealing where the talks should be held.

Agreed during previous meetings

The two leaders agreed to resume the talks when they met for a brief meeting in the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea in June.

Trump recently fired his national security adviser John Bolton. Trump has said that Bolton made a mistake on North Korea. North Korea has also previously expressed sharp criticism of Bolton.
