After six months of preparations, the final step is now in progress to get everything in place for the EU Arctic Forum, a unique meeting where European foreign ministers will meet in Umeå and discuss the Arctic climate challenges.

- As usual, there's a lot to do at the last minute, so it's a pretty crazy week. But this means a lot because here we put Västerbotten as part of the Arctic, says Mats-Rune Bergström, director at the County Administrative Board in Västerbotten.

"Huge natural resources"

Up to 700 people are expected to attend the conference. In addition to all the top politicians, there are also a number of civil servants and scientists, and it is not just about climate challenges, but also how to deal with the major political tug of war on the natural resources that exist in the Arctic region.

- There is a major political part in this where Russia, the US and China are starting to position themselves in the Arctic. As is often the case with money, in the Arctic there are enormous natural resources, says Peter Sköld, director of the Arctic center at Umeå University.

That's why the Arctic is hot right now - hear Peter Sköld explain in the clip above.
