MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin defended his US counterpart Donald Trump on Tuesday after accusations that he was pressuring Kiev to weaken his political rival Joe Biden, saying there was "nothing wrong" with the text.

"I see nothing abusive in the conversation between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelinsky," Putin said of the phone call that prompted Democrats to initiate measures to isolate Trump.

"President Trump has turned to a colleague for a probe into possible corruption linked to members of his former administration."

"Any head of state will have to do the same," he said at an energy forum in Moscow.

"They have always used any excuse to attack President Trump; he is now Ukraine."

Last week, the White House released the content of a July telephone conversation with Zielinski's newly elected.

The text showed that Trump had asked Zielinski to conduct an investigation targeting his rival Joe Biden. Democrats are investigating whether Trump is the last aid worth $ 400 million (365.8 million euros) as leverage.
