Registration for the 46th edition of the Gothia Cup opened at 10am today and teams around the world were ready. Teams from the US and Canada were among the teams that had signed up within ten minutes, despite the time difference.

- We thought last year's record would be difficult to beat, but it is of course extremely gratifying that the interest in participating in the world's largest youth tournament is so huge, says competition leader Niclas Freiholtz in a press release.

Boy team from Mölndal took first place

The pressure on the servers was high on Wednesday morning and after only 30 minutes, over 400 teams from 13 countries had registered. But for the teams coming from the Gothenburg area it was even more difficult to get a place, the registration for local teams was closed after only five minutes. Swedish team IF Mölndal Fotboll boys-08 was the very first team to register. D

- The guys are very happy when they found out that they would be participating and are already looking forward to next year's tournament. We thought this year we should be quick because we had heard from last year that it could be difficult to get a seat if you were a local team, so it was a bit like buying tickets for a big rock concert, says Erik Bengtsson, coach.
