Wednesday, the first anniversary of the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi at his country's consulate in Istanbul, and paid tribute to activists, human rights and organizations supporting freedom of the press and friends of his memory near the headquarters of the consulate.

International commemorative, human rights and media figures and activists of various nationalities attended the commemoration.

A number of speakers on the occasion called for justice for Jamal, and criticized the Saudi authorities and demanded to reveal the location of his body, and to prosecute the perpetrators of this crime, which they described as brutal.

Jeff Bezos, owner of the Washington Post, founder and president of Amazon, attended the commemoration ceremony and said that what Khadija Genghis, Jamal's fiancée, went through was not easy, and everyone should support it.

Khashoggi was a columnist for Bezos's newspaper.

For her part, Khadija said that Jamal was seeking a better life for his compatriots and demanding freedom of expression and strengthening the accountability of the state, and this did not happen in his life but now happens after his death, she said.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman told the US television network that the Khashoggi murder took place while he was in power, which puts him in a responsible position, but stressed that it took place without his knowledge.

UN investigator Agnes Kalamar told Al Jazeera that bin Salman wanted to distance himself from the murder.

"The statement does not, in any way, contain a sentence indicating personal responsibility for the crime. He says in his statement that he is responsible as a state official, but he does not say that he is directly and directly responsible for the crime. He does not admit that he may have been a player in the crime." .

In the same vein, the German Foreign Ministry asked Saudi Arabia to provide a full and credible clarification of the murder of Khashoggi, while the European Union said that there are still many questions unanswered.

In a statement, the European Union stressed the need to ensure full accountability of all officials. He stressed the need to conduct a credible and transparent investigation to uncover the circumstances of the crime, and to conduct legal proceedings against the defendants who are on trial in Riyadh.

The EU said Jamal Khashoggi is a respected Saudi journalist and continues to inspire journalists, including colleagues in EU institutions.
