- There have been several horrific women murders, says regional police chief Carin Götblad.

In recent years, several women have lost their lives through deadly violence in close relationships. 19-year-old Tova Moberg from Njutånger is one of them. She was found dead in a lake off Hudiksvall in May 2017. Her ex-boyfriend is convicted of the crime.

Another is a 50-year-old woman who was strangled to death by her husband in their joint home in Gävle in October 2018. In the interrogation, the man told him there was a brawl about a TV show and when his wife asked him to take care, it blackened for the eyes. The man was convicted of murder.

More police are needed - but it takes time

Regional Police Chief Carin Götblad.

According to Carin Götblad, female violence should be stopped by more police officers, because she does not deny that Gävleborg has too few police officers today. More resources on preventive work with young people is another important measure to be desired. But it takes time to get more police officers.

- Training a police officer takes almost five years from the decision that we have a ready police officer so it will not happen overnight, but we do what we can and it will increase slowly. This also applies to Gävleborg, says Carin Götblad.
