Increased traffic from Sörmland in the 2020 timetable

In SJ's train plan for 2020, the company expects more departures from Nyköping to southern Sweden.

- It is our Intercity trains that make a comeback in traffic. It is a traditional train with trolley and locomotive, which will, among other things, offer direct connection Stockholm-Nyköping-Norrköping down to Helsingborg-Malmö during the weekend, says Peter Essén, Business Manager at SJ.

The goal is for two trains on Thursday, Friday and Sunday from next year to operate the route as a complement to the high-speed trains, which do not stop in Nyköping.

At present, it is not entirely clear whether all departures will stop in Nyköping on the way down to Skåne, the reason being that the route is heavily trafficked.

- Some of the trains we may need to redirect towards Katrineholm. But we hope that all trains will be able to stop in Nyköping.
