The President of the European Parliament has officially informed the future President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen that the candidates from Hungary and Romania have been found unfit to serve as European commissioner due to a conflict of interest. A fast replacement is expected

With our Brussels office,

Ursula von der Leyen has yet to make her decision known as nothing forces her to withdraw her candidates . However, we seem to be moving towards a quick replacement. For Ursula von der Leyen, time is running out, the European Parliament began Monday the confirmation auditions of candidates.

Three of them have already passed and if she replaces László Trócsányi and Rovana Plumb she should no longer be able to change the portfolios. Unless we postpone for several weeks the process that is supposed to end with the inauguration of the new College of Commissioners on November 1st.

Replacements already found

In fact the substitutes are already on the starting line since the Hungarian Prime Minister announced his intention to propose a diplomat, Olivér Várhelyi, and that the name of the ambassador Luminiţa Odobescu is evoked for Romania even if Bucharest announces internal consultations .

These two diplomats are counterparts in Brussels where they serve as permanent representatives of their respective countries to the European Union. The likely withdrawal of the two problematic candidates and the removal of doubts about the Belgian and Polish candidates put the French centrist Sylvie Goulard out of step. The left and right groups have each lost a candidate and may well decide that hostilities are open against other parties.
