28 September 2019The Brazilian "Pacificado", directed by the American Paxton Winters, won the Golden Shell for best film at the 67th San Sebastián Festival. This is the verdict of the international jury, chaired by the Irish director and producer, Neil Jordan.

Co-produced by the American Darren Aronofsky, he focuses on violence in the favelas of Rio, in the aftermath of the Olympic Games. The film completes the success also obtaining the silver shell for the best actor to the protagonist, Bukassa Kabengele, and the prize for photography to Laura Merians.

Special Prize of the jury to the French "Proxima", directed by Alice Winocour and interpreted by Eva Green in the role of an astronaut engaged in a space program of one year. The mission will keep her away from her daughter, putting her to the test as a woman and as a parent.

Silver shell for the Spanish director Aitor Arregi, Jon Garaño, Jose Mari Goenaga for "La trinchera infinita". The film, on the wounds of the Civil War, also obtains recognition for the best screenplay, which goes to Luiso Berdejo and Goenaga, and the Fipresci prize of international critics.

The Silver Conchiglia for the best female interpretation goes ex aequo to the Spanish Greta Fernández, for "La hija de un ladrón", on the relations between father and daughter, directed by newcomer Belén Funes, and to the German Nina Hoss for "The audition ", directed by Ina Weisse, which tells the story of a violin teacher.

In the section dedicated to first or second works, "New directors", the Chilean "Algunas bestias", directed by Jorge Riquelme, with Paulina García and Alfredo Castro, wins over a family abandoned on a small island, while a special mention goes to " Sister ", by Svetla Tsotsorkova (Bulgaria-Qatar).

In the "Horizontes latinos" section, the Argentine Romina Paula imposes herself with "De nuevo otra vez", with a special mention in "La bronca", directed by Diego Vega and Daniel Vega (Peru-Colombia).

The Zabaltegi-Tabakalera section, where feature films, shorts, documentaries and series compete, sees the success of the German Angela Schanelec, for "I was at home, but", already awarded at the Berlinale, with special mention to the French Damien Manivel for "Isadora's children ", film entered in the palmarès in Locarno.

The public prize goes to the French "Hors normes", by Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano, while best European film is "Sorry we missed you", by Ken Loach.
