SVT's Consumer Editors Plus report on several cases where home buyers have had major problems after writing on first-hand contracts for tenant-owned apartments built by Peab. Two of those affected are Joy Nandy and Emin Durak.

In an interview with the Plus editorial, Peab's lawyer states that the company and the tenant-owner association acted correctly which did not redeem the customers from the advance agreements. This is despite the fact that according to the Housing Act there may be the possibility of canceling the agreements after delays.

- The agreements are binding. Unfortunately, there are delays in the production of an entire house, says Åke Theblin, lawyer at Peab.

Do not want to comment on individual cases

In legal terms, Joy Nandy, Emin Durak and other dissatisfied people have signed their agreements with the housing association Vip-logen. But it is Peab who started the association and appointed the board of the association. But neither Peab nor the housing association wants to go into the details of the individual cases.

- He (Emin) has voluntarily signed a lease agreement. We do not force our buyers to enter into any agreements with us at all, ”says Toni Lahdo, chairman of the housing association Vip-logen.

"Not Peab's responsibility"

However, Åke Theblin thinks that communication could sometimes have been better from Peab's side and he regrets if customers experienced discomfort. But he does not think the company could have done anything differently despite the disputes that exist. He also argues that the disputes are due to the fall in prices in the housing market.

- It is not Peab's responsibility, this is an effect of a market that has gone down, says Åke Theblin.

Plus: Could you have done otherwise?

- I have a very hard time seeing it. If it is to be the construction of tenant-owned housing in Sweden, it is necessary that we have early binding agreements with buyers in order for associations to receive funding to be able to carry out construction work.
