The second round of the Tunisian presidential election will take place on October 13, announced Friday, September 27, on France 24, Nabil Baffoun, president of the Independent Higher Authority for Elections (Isie).

"Sunday, October 13 will be the date of the second round of presidential elections," he said on our antenna. Nabil Baffoun stressed the country's exceptional situation with the disappearance of the head of state Béji Caïd Essebsi, who died on 25 July. He explains that the choice of this date for the second round meets "a constitutional constraint", the law stipulating that the presidential election must take place within 90 days.

The second round will be opposed by Kaïs Saïed and Nabil Karoui, candidate currently in custody and unable to carry out his campaign. "I have already called for his release, in an official way," said Nabil Baffoun, stressing the importance of organizing a fair duel between the two candidates. "We are worried as a body and we would like the judiciary in Tunisia to respond favorably to our request."
