Washington confirms the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said yesterday that the United States had concluded that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government had used chlorine gas as a chemical weapon in an attack in May as part of the crackdown on Idlib.

"The Assad government is responsible for horrific atrocities, some of which amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity," Pompeo told a news conference.
