The Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations in Geneva, Obaid Salem Al Zaabi, delivered the UAE's address to the 42nd session of the Human Rights Council as part of the interactive dialogue with the independent expert on the situation of human rights in Sudan.

At the outset of the speech, Ambassador Al Zaabi welcomed the independent expert, stressing that the UAE joined the Arab Group statement.

In this context, Zaabi expressed satisfaction over the formation of the new Sudanese government after the signing of the Constitutional Declaration document on 17 August in the presence of many countries, including the UAE.

He expressed the hope that this positive step will mark the beginning of a new phase that will contribute to the establishment of the rule of law and achieve the continuity of state institutions and stability of security.

Al-Zaabi stressed that «the challenges faced by Sudan requires focusing on urgent needs and not to place local authorities obligations difficult to implement in the current circumstances».

He said that “overburdening Sudan with comprehensive programs and reforms is not feasible at this difficult stage due to lack of resources. The democracy that the Sudanese people aspire to. ”

Al-Zaabi stressed the UAE's respect for the sovereignty of Sudan and the need to preserve its stability and territorial integrity. Establish a political system capable of advancing the state and moving it towards a promising and prosperous future.
