The reason why universities did not make any major procurement of the Christmas tables was that the Christmas table mediation was reviewed. When the time was scarce for Christmas, it was decided to let the departments freely manage the matter themselves.

The Swedish Competition Authority considers that this was a matter of unauthorized direct procurement and is now applying to the Administrative Court in Stockholm to convict SU to pay a fine of SEK 160,000.

- It is important to take into account any possible review when procurement is done, otherwise there is the risk of being in a contractless position, which opens for unforeseen, costly purchases and in the worst case also corruption, says the Competition Authority's Director General Rikard Jermsten in a press release from the authority.
