“Regarding the attitude of society to the fact that these data will be disclosed, it seems to me that there will not be any problems. Whenever it comes to saving people, those involved in their search should have as many opportunities as possible, ”he said.

Kostin also emphasized that in almost all countries such data are obtained “either without permission at all, or by an expedited procedure”.

“Moreover, here it is not about disclosing personal data, but about saving people ... We have many cases where minors or elderly people disappear, and the search in hot pursuit yields nothing. Cases are long and do not always lead to the discovery of the missing. But thanks to technical means, the percentage of those who are found in the first week can grow significantly, ”he concluded.

Earlier, the State Duma at a plenary meeting adopted in first reading a bill on the use of geolocation data to search for the missing.

In the event of the final adoption of the bill, law enforcement agencies will be able, without a court decision, to use the location data of mobile phones of missing citizens for their prompt search.
