MADRID (Reuters) - The idea of picking the perfect squad for 2019 has tempted Spanish newspaper Marca to launch a vote for a list of the worst players of last season.
FIFA announced on Monday the perfect squad that included Alison Becker in the goalkeeper, Virgil van Dijk, Matthias de Licht, Sergio Ramos and Marcelo in the line of defense, Luca Modric, De Jong and Eden Hazard in the middle of the field and Killian Mabe, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the attack.
Aside from the controversy sparked by the absence of brilliant players, Marca chose to launch a vote for the worst squad last season.
German goalkeeper Carrios got the most votes to be on the list after failing to deliver a disastrous performance in the 2018 Champions League final when his mistakes caused Liverpool to lose to Real Madrid.
In the defense, Phil Jones from Manchester United along with Arsenal's Liegsteiner and Augsburg's Korstawa.
In the middle of the field, Cotinho, who joined the club after a failed Barcelona experience, picked up Cotinho, along with Renato Sanchez, Lille and Manchester United.
In the attack, Chilean striker Alexis Sanchez received the highest vote, joining the list of the worst after his disappointing performance with Manchester United before his departure to Inter, along with Quincy Promis from Ajax Amsterdam and Ghana striker Christian Atsu.
