The early morning did not prevent a steady influx of interested parties to the Gothenburg fish auction when the lobster of the year was traditionally to be auctioned off.

Buyer: "Feels good"

The clock had barely passed seven when Rickard Magnusson managed to bring home the box, which for the first time in 2006 was sold for SEK 1,250 per kilo - but today the kilo price of SEK 52,000 ended.

- It feels good. I didn't know if I would bring the lobster home. The adrenaline rush is felt when it is about so much money, the auction winner states.

Quick auction - 60 seconds

The actual bidding started at SEK 10,000 and the auction was completed within a minute.

- I have bid before and several years ago I bought it three years in a row, but at that time it cost 2,500 kilos. Now it was a customer who wanted it so it is not for myself, says Rickard Magnusson who does not fish himself but works as a wholesaler in the industry.

What is so special about the premiere lobster?

- It's such a thing as strawberries, fresh potatoes. A thing that just happens. There will be a little hysteria.

Just over two months left

The annual lobster fishing started around the same time yesterday morning and is allowed until November 30 for recreational anglers and December 31 for professional anglers.

The rules regarding lobster fishing were tightened both in 2017 and 2018. This year, the county administrative board in Västra Götaland has also begun work with underwater drones to clean up the remaining lobster tins that can eventually jeopardize the entire lobster stock.
