In January this year, Region Örebro County let 4000 car commuters try to travel for free to work by train or bus. Now the region has found out how many people caught the eye of public transport and continue to leave the car at home in the days.

Of the 4,000 participants, 850, previously experienced motorists, have chosen to continue traveling collectively six months after the test period.

- It is great fun that 850 former van drivers have chosen to continue traveling collectively instead of by car after the try-on campaign. In addition to benefits for the individual commuter, it is a benefit for the climate, ”says Mirja Mattsson, project manager for Sustainable Travel in the Örebro region, in a press release.

Shorter queues and less emissions

The fact that the Örebro region received 850 fewer car shuttles has meant that the car queues in the county have decreased by about 3000 meters. This also means that carbon dioxide emissions have decreased by 1560 tonnes, which corresponds to 624 return flights to Thailand.

When the campaign was carried out last year, 600 car commuters chose to switch to public transport.
