The lack of teaching time means that not all students are given equal conditions for knowledge and development, the School Inspectorate believes.

- For a long time it has been difficult for Gällivare municipality to be able to recruit teachers in practical-aesthetic subjects, says Jenny Johansson Jänkänpää (MP) chair of the Children and Education Board.

Not compatible with school law

The opposition politician in the Children and Education Committee Eva Alriksson (M) is critical that students are not given the teaching time they are entitled to.

She says it's not compatible with the school law.

- There are examples where music education is not given at all. There are students who would have had grades in music and not have had music lessons. To me, this doesn't seem legal.

The previous rating is valid

- If you have not had teaching in music then the previous grade is because the student's knowledge has not been impaired or improved, if you have had teaching then you get a new grade, says David Väyrynen (V) vice chairman of the Board of Children and Education.

The School Inspectorate demands answers on how the municipality should remedy the lack of teaching time in the subjects music and home knowledge.

Students are allowed to take back lost time

The municipality's solution is to give the students more hours during the coming semesters to catch up on the teaching they have not received.

- The students will have to take back the time they have missed, because it is very important that students get the teaching time they are entitled to, says Jenny Johansson Jänkänpää (MP) chair of the children and education board in Gällivare.
