In the spring of 2019, the Health and Medical Administration in the Stockholm region ordered an external review of eating disorder care at the Stockholm Center for Eating Disorders, SCÄ. The review was completed in early September and criticized the clinic's use of money for research instead of the care the money was supposed to go to. According to the audit, it should have contributed to the lengthening of the care queues, which entailed a serious patient safety risk.

Now the management of SLSO responds to the shortcomings and recommendations identified in the reviewer's report.

Queuing problems due to changed care supply

The management at Stockholm County's medical area partly admits that the boundary between business development and research is unclear. They write that the care provider's management structure and organization need to be reviewed to make it known in the business. But they believe that there is no evidence that care money has been transferred to pure research, as the reviewer describes.

In their response, SLSO also writes that they do not share the view that SCÄ's research has contributed to the queuing problem but instead contributed to strengthening the ordered care. The explanation for the queue situation is that they believe that the supply of care in the county has changed.

The opinion should be valued

The Healthcare Administration will now evaluate the received response regarding SCÄ. If the Health Care Administration considers that the results of the review are still firm, they will take measures to primarily ensure patient safety.
