The Chairman of the Municipal Board in Kävlinge, Pia Almström, is one of those who changed their views.

- I think it would be pretty pointless right now, we have three places in the entire municipality where we have beggars, says Pia Almström (M).

The number of people begging has decreased in many parts of the country and this has meant that the question of begging has slipped in priority among many municipal politicians.

SD disappointed at M

Of 29 municipalities that showed interest in January this year, only five have introduced bans and four have concrete plans to introduce a begging ban in the near future. But most, the other 20, tell SVT that a begging ban is not on the table right now. The issue may have stuck in an investigation or the political majority may be missing. Regardless, most municipalities state that they no longer perceive begging as a problem.

The Swedish Democrats in Kävlinge are disappointed that the Moderates have fluctuated on this issue.

- I think it is bad because at national level you have said that you want to introduce a begging ban and then you do not, says Henrik Ekberg (SD), member of the municipal council.

- I don't think you should solve problems that you don't have and I don't think we have problems today, says Pia Almström (M).
