Gunilla Karlsson was one of the police officers who talked to wildlife accidents at a traffic check on County Road 272 between Harbo and Östervåla on Tuesday.
Every year, the police organize a national emergency week where motorists are informed about what they can do to prevent wildlife accidents - and what to do if the accident has occurred.
Since 2010, reports of wildlife accidents have increased in Uppsala County, according to statistics from the National Wildlife Accident Council, NVR.
- This may be because the animal population has increased and the speed limit has increased in several ways. I don't think it's the motorists who do something that can be linked to it, "says Fredrik Engström, county manager for the search for hunters at the police in Uppsala county.
Accident-affected roads in the countyThere are several accident-prone roads in Uppsala County, one of these roads being precisely the road between Harbo and Östervåla, where in 2019 there have been 21 wild accidents so far.
- There is a lot of commuter traffic on the road, there is a lot of forest and then there is not so much game fencing - that's probably the reason, says Fredrik Engström.
"Be careful all the time"Gunilla Karlsson was involved in a wildlife accident with an elk about 40 years ago, something that still affects her.
- I'm careful about traffic all the time, says Gunilla Karlsson.
What was the first thing you thought of?
- I thought about the moose, then I had my husband and daughter in the car. The car was completely demolished and the windows crushed.
