Sölvesborg thus became the third municipality in the country, after Vellinge and Katrineholm, to stop begging. 27 members voted in favor of the proposal, and 21 against. SD, M, KD and the local party SoL voted in favor of the ban, which will apply in eight places in the municipality.

Now it has been 99 days since the ban was introduced, and police say they have had no problems with beggars.

- In the past, I know there was a beggar, but after the ban was introduced, we have not had to intervene at any time, says municipal police Max Saude.

According to Romanian honorary consul Olivia Costea, the last beggar left before the ban was introduced.

Is begging a non-problem in Sölvesborg?

- Today it is a non-problem after the ban was introduced, but in the past I experienced it as a problem, says Paul Andersson (M), the Sölvesborg municipal council.

Willy Söderdahl (V) says that there has always been a non-problem and that the ban sends out signals that everyone is not welcome to Sölvesborg.
