In recent summers, among other things, there has been a report on the large spread of spruce bark drill and oak bark in Sweden. Now in the fall even the small butterfly larva that damages horse chestnuts is spreading.

Mattias Nilsson, a park worker and arborist in Nykvarn, makes a link between climate change and the attacks on the trees.

- These are diseases that have been around before, but it is made worse by shorter winters and warmer summers. The insects survive the winters and the heat can produce more generations of them.

He sees the risk of a rapid change among the trees in Sweden.

- I think there is a risk that our parks will look different within 50 years.
