The corresponding bill, with the text of which was read by RT, was submitted to the US Congress by a candidate for presidency from the Democratic Party, Senator Amy Klobushar.

According to the senator, foreign governments allegedly seek to spread false messages and mislead American citizens.

In addition, in her opinion, the creation of the center will help intelligence "better defend American democracy."

“We know that foreign states and their agents conducted large-scale and sophisticated campaigns to exert influence in order to sow schism, spread misinformation and mislead the American people. We need a comprehensive plan of joint action to protect our democracy from the information war, ”said Klobushar.

The bill was co-sponsored by another Democratic senator, Jack Reed, who emphasized that Washington should step up its efforts to counter the “ever more sophisticated and developing Russian threat.”

“The Russian information war and hostile foreign influence operations are continuing and pose a serious threat to our national security and democracy,” he said.

According to him, "Russia and other foreign opponents will inevitably try to interfere in the 2020 elections, spreading misinformation and aiming at our electoral infrastructure."

Earlier in the U.S. Senate, the FBI called on the FBI to assess its readiness to counter Russia's allegedly potential intervention in the U.S. election in 2020.

Moscow has repeatedly drawn attention to the groundlessness of allegations of interference.
