UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - UN youth envoy Jayathma Wickramanayak has decided to withdraw from an event organized by the Saudi cultural organization Misk on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, his spokesman said on Monday.

Haq said that this participation in the current circumstances will not lead to the desired results, which is to bring young leaders, influencers and creative people together to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

The New York Library decided to withdraw from the forum itself after being criticized for hosting the event, in conjunction with the first anniversary of the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

It is noteworthy that "Misk" is a charity belonging to the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Since the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi at his country's consulate in Istanbul on October 2, 2018, a number of universities and organizations' relations with this institution have been reviewed.

Harvard University, for example, decided in July to stop dealing with it on the back of reports that senior figures in the Saudi authority, including Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, have been blamed for the killing of Khashoggi.
