Prior to the UN Climate Summit, Secretary-General António Guterres has asked invited leaders to bring concrete plans and not just speeches. One of the leaders who received speaking time is Prime Minister Stefan Löfven.

SVT now finds that Sweden, together with India, has been given responsibility for changing and improving heavy industries in order to reduce emissions.

Presented at the summit

At the summit, a new group led by the two countries will be presented, according to SVT's information. Both countries and companies, including Swedish LKAB and Scania, will be included in the group. The mission thus engages both the public and private sectors and is about finding a way to live up to the Paris agreement on reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

On Monday, the Swedish government is also expected to issue a press release on the UN-sponsored initiative.

Löfven: "Adaptation we must do together"

Prime Minister Stefan Löfven tells SVT that it is good that Guterres turns to Sweden and India to take the lead in the area, and emphasizes the importance of cooperation for a green transition:

- Sweden aims to have net zero emissions by 2045, and then we know that not least the industry accounts for about a third of emissions now. We also know that the change cannot be done by individuals alone, but we must do this together. And then it is clear that cooperation between politics, society, and business, industry, is very valuable. Where the industry can also make its commitments, says Löfven.

Cooperation between politics and business

He also believes that several countries and companies will want to go after Sweden.

- When Sweden and India take the lead, country after country will now follow and want to do what we do. Cooperation between politics and business - with emissions.
