Experts from the Financial University under the Russian government conducted a survey among residents of medium and large cities of Russia, as a result of which it turned out that the residents of Ulyanovsk, Saransk, Astrakhan, Lipetsk and Novorossiysk are most often engaged in the manufacture of home-made alcohol.

The study notes that the production and consumption of moonshine is one of the indicators of the economic situation in the country.

Zubets noted that “as economic difficulties increase, the population tries to switch from expensive legal alcohol to cheaper products of its own production or alcohol.”

In July, the FAN reported that 170 tons of illegal alcohol were seized in St. Petersburg.
