French back Dika Mem, who plays with FC Barcelona's handball section, was the target of racist shouts from Slovenian fans on Saturday in a Champions League match against Celje (45-21), and called to "punish" these behaviors.
"There are people like that everywhere, this (Saturday) night has happened and for me it must be sanctioned," said Mem at a press conference.
"But I'm not a leader and we can not control everybody, we have to ignore that and we'll see in the return match" next February in Slovenia, he added, saying that he had received an apology from the leaders and Celje players.
According to the Spanish media, Dika Mem (22 years old) was the target of cries of monkey coming from the visitors' gallery at the end of the first period. The audience at Palau Blaugrana in Barcelona reacted strongly by blowing Slovenian fans.
