On Saturday, Micael Kemi, together with politicians and other officials from Pitå municipality on Byxtorget, will talk to residents about smoking and littering in the city center.

- This is the first time we have made such an investment and it feels important considering how the reduction in fines has increased, says Micael Kemi.

The pimples end up on the ground

Since 1 July, a new tobacco law applies, which means that many public environments are now smoke-free. This includes, for example, school yards, play parks, sports facilities, bus shelters, restaurants and outdoor restaurants. The ban also applies to outside entrances to premises and other spaces that are open to the public.

- I cannot comment on how the smoking ban is complied with, but we have, as I said, noted an increase in the number of smokers thrown on the ground after the new law came into force, says Micael Kemi.

Expensive debris

The reduction costs Piteå municipality about SEK 9,000 a week and on Saturday representatives of Piteå municipality hope that the citizens will give them tips on how the town can be kept clean and fresh.

- Our employees feel that many do not use existing garbage baskets and ashtrays. There will be a lot of garbage in the city center, while there will also be a work environment problem for those who are going to correct these fimps.
