Today is the day of the beach when young people all over the world go out to clean beaches. In Jönköping County, 30-year-olds from Nässjö City IF and Waggeryds IK clean the beaches at Malmbäcksån, Forserumsån, Fågelfors and Hjortssjön.

At the beach day last year, young women in the county gathered around 30 bags of debris from the beaches, including a satellite dish and car tires. The most common rubbish is cigarette butts, food packaging and plastic bags.

Beach Day is part of Keep Sweden Rent Day.

Want to raise consciousness

In Jönköping County, Keep Sweden Clean arranges a garbage collection at City Hall Park in Jönköping. In addition, volunteers have announced that they will do at least one garbage pickup.

- Picking garbage is not about cleaning, but about raising awareness about the problems caused by the garbage. By picking garbage together we can help change behaviors and show others that it is not okay to junk down, says Johanna Ragnartz, CEO of Keep Sweden Clean.
