The National Board of Health and Welfare has evaluated endometriosis care in the country. It turns out that there are major shortcomings and regional differences, and the need for increased knowledge is great. For example, several women's clinics lack procedures for acute pain management.

Despite its own endometriosis center in Malmö, Skåne falls below the national limit for procedures for acute pain treatment. They are also below the national limit for patients who have received follow-up of outpatient care after an endometriosis surgery.

"I can only answer for SUS, but it has happened a lot in recent years, and I think the statistics will look different if you look at it for, say, three years," says Pia Teleman, operations manager at SUS's Women's Healthcare.

Endometriosteam in Skåne

When it comes to access to women's clinics and an endometriosis team, Skåne is at the top.

- At SUS, we have made regional guidelines and we have a full-scale team with very competent staff. I am proud of the team that we have succeeded in building, which focuses on caring for patients with endometriosis, ”says Pia Teleman.

National guidelines for how endometriosis should be treated have been missing until December last year. Then, for the first time, the National Board of Health and Welfare produced the national guidelines, and also provided information and training material on the disease.
