Some of the wildlife accidents are so-called "weighing accidents", that is, the accident did not occur in the collision with the animal, but when the driver tried to avoid it.

- Generally, you should not weigh for smaller animals. The cars are so safe today that you are relatively safe in a passenger car in a collision with a deer, the personal injury can be much worse if you weigh and drive into a tree or oncoming traffic, says Tommy Åkerberg, responsible at the police for wildlife accidents in Jönköping county, in a statement on the police web.

Per-Anders Eriksson, responsible for wildlife accidents at the police in Östergötland, believes that every accident situation is unique and that one should use one's judgment.

- If the traffic situation permits, you can weigh and not take the risk of driving a smaller animal.

"A damaged boar is always dangerous"

A game accident should always be reported to the police and marked out. In the case of wild boar accidents, however, the recommendation is not to stop at the site where the wild boar is injured or dead. It is better to drive about 100 meters from there and then mark the place.

- A damaged wild boar can be aggressive and attack. You should not go out on the site, says Per-Anders Eriksson.

Next week, the police have a national intervention week against wildlife accidents where they want to spread information about and prevent wildlife accidents.
