Yesterday, Thursday, winter officially entered Sweden when Tarfala, east of Kebnekaise, had five days with an average temperature not exceeding zero degrees. It has already snowed in several parts of the country, but the measuring station in Kittelfjäll is the only one for the season that recorded a snow depth.

- It is the first official snow depth in the country, although it has been snowing before, says SVT meteorologist Per Stenborg.

Snow depth is measured daily throughout the country at 08 time. No snow has previously been recorded by the measuring stations in southern Norrland, Svealand and Götaland, but for northern Norrland, a centimeter depth was thus measured at Kittelfjäll during Thursday. On Friday, however, the snow was a mere memory.

Winter takes a while in Västerbotten

It officially became autumn in Västerbotten County last Saturday after five days below ten degrees. And even though both Vilhelmina and Åsele have had more than three minus degrees during the night until Friday, winter has to wait.

- We'll have to settle for another autumn. Yesterday, only Stekenjokk in the county had winter temperatures, ie a daytime temperature below zero degrees. But I think it will climb over zero again this weekend, says Per Stenborg.

In the southern parts of the country it can get over 20 degrees hot this weekend, but in the north it gets cooler - down to zero. SMHI has issued a Class 1 warning for heavy winds with snow drift or rainfall in Jämtland County.
