In Tunisia, five days after the first round of the presidential election, it is time for negotiations. If the imprisoned candidate Nabil Karoui has recorded little official support of the defeated candidates, however Kaïs Saïed garner rallies. Last in date, that of Ennahdha.

Not surprisingly, the Islamist-inspired party will support the conservative candidate. The announcement was made by the chairman of the Shura council of the Ennahdha movement who said that the priority of his party was the parliamentary elections of October 6th. A poll for which Kaïs Saïed does not present any candidate since he has precisely no political party.

Out of party

The winner of the first round likes to remind regularly that he is out of party and that he does not envisage any change of course despite rallies. With this support of Ennahdha, if we postpone the percentages of votes of the various candidates of the first round who declared themselves in favor of Kaïs Saïed, it could already count on almost 50% of the votes. But postponements of votes are not a mathematical exercise, and no one doubts that the official rallying of Ennahdha risks awakening the anti-Islamist sentiment that had won in the last presidential election.

Rejection of traditional parties?

While current rallies officially target the second round of presidential elections, parties also seek to position themselves against voters in view of parliamentary elections that could confirm the rejection of traditional parties.
