"We have just sanctioned the national bank of Iran, it has just been done." With these words launched from the Oval Office, US President Donald Trump announced new sanctions against the Iranian banking system. He says these are the "toughest sanctions ever imposed on a country".

Reprisal against attacks in Saudi Arabia

These new sanctions come in the wake of attacks on oil installations in Saudi Arabia on 14 September. According to Washington, which evokes "an act of war" they were led by the Iranians, which Teheran denies. Wednesday already, Donald Trump had threatened Iran with new sanctions on Twitter, after ordering the Treasury Secretary "to substantially tighten the sanctions against the Iranian state!"
