For the first time since he was remanded in custody on charges of rape and violence, prominent Swiss thinker Tariq Ramadan presented his views on the charges in his recent dramatic book Devoir de Vérité by Press de Châtelé.

The case began on October 20, 2017, when French citizen Hinda Ayari filed a complaint against Ramadan accusing him of rape, followed by a second complaint from another citizen, Crystal, whose name was revealed in Ramadan, and a third in Switzerland and the United States. Along with another complaint filed in July 2019, her 54-year-old owner says Tarek Ramadan raped her with another man.

Ramadan's opponents tried to prevent the publication of the "duty of truth" by a judicial decision on the grounds of the full name of one of the defendants, but the judge rejected the request and allowed the book to be published.

Tariq Ramadan confirmed his innocence of all the charges against him, and explained in his book that he surrendered in January 2018 to the French authorities to confirm his innocence, before being seized by the security services and magistrates and enter the prison cycle pending investigation.

He revealed that all requests for follow-up in case of release were rejected by the competent judges arguments described as flimsy, for example, saying one of them that Tarek Ramadan has a second Egyptian passport and fears his escape from the trial to Egypt! While he only has one Swiss passport handed over to the police from the start, he said he and his lawyer had confirmed that he had come to France and surrendered to security to prove his innocence, and would not leave France until the goal had been achieved.

A critical health situation
He was not accompanied by his poor health to persuade judges to follow him in case he was released to enable him to continue his treatment for multiple sclerosis, where he was denied proper treatment inside the prison, which clearly affected his health.

Tariq Ramadan said they condemned him before his trial and explained that the book reveals everything they hid from people.

Ramadan explained in the book how he was falling to the ground in his cell or in the corridor of the prison because of his inability to walk, and stay extended for long periods on the ground with severe pain in the head and the rest of the body without being carried by the guards because the law prevents it, and make him wait for the arrival of the nursing staff .

He added that he was taking 13 kinds of different drugs per day, and suffered from not taking these drugs in the right amount at the right time due to prison conditions and practices of some jailers, which further deteriorated his health, especially with the serious side effects of these drugs.

He also revealed interesting details about his medical experiences, one of which shows that a doctor did not spend more than 25 minutes in the detection of his condition, a patient with a serious illness needs specialist time to know the details of the disease and its history before the verdict, but the doctor only Minutes, to report in his report that the illness of the Swiss thinker allows him to be imprisoned pending investigation, and then he proceeded to leave on the following day.

Evidence
The author of The Duty of Truth explained in detail how the defendants' files lack any evidence of conviction on charges of rape and violence, but rather contain many contradictions revealed by the French criminal investigation.

He pointed out that a number of names of lawyers and political and media personalities were repeated when his case was examined before the investigating judges, which indicates that there is some coordination in the complaints filed, especially after direct contact was established between some of them and the main complainants Hinda and Crystal.

Among the names mentioned in Tarek Ramadan's case, along with lawyers, are Caroline Forest, Jean-Claude El Fassi, and Alain Sogal, all known for their long-standing hostility to Tarek Ramadan and media battles against him for many years.

The Swiss thinker has always asserted that his opponents have not forgiven him for his positions in talking about Islam and clarifying his concepts in proportion to the mindset that Westerners think. He also did not forgive him for his frank and explicit expression of positions rejecting aspects of French policy in Africa and the Middle East, as well as his support for the Palestinian cause.

Those attitudes were keen to emphasize that it is the reason why a well-known bloc in France seeks to eliminate it.

Media condemnation, not judicial
In addition to harsh criticism of a number of investigating judges, Ramadan confirmed that he was subjected to fierce media condemnation from the first day of the outbreak of the case, stressing that the judges and the media did not respect the law which states that the presumption of innocence is the right of every defendant who has not yet been convicted.

He said that his opponents and their lawyers have spared no effort in devoting media condemnation to him.

Ramadan did not forget to thank all those who supported him and defended his right to benefit from the presumption of innocence and follow-up in case of release, expressing his apology to all his fans who were frustrated with what happened, without hiding his resentment of the rush of many "to repudiate" after filing that complaint against him.

The Swiss thinker stressed that the visit of his wife and children to him in prison, and meeting with ordinary French citizens in support of his case after his release from prison after spending nine months inside him, reinforced his determination to follow up on anyone involved in the file of the rape accusation for the purpose of killing him morally and erase his history of thought, dialogue and defense Islam, Muslims, immigrants and just issues in the forums of Europe, America and various regions of the world.
