20 September 2019The Taranto Re-Examination Court accepted the appeal presented by the lawyers Angelo Loreto and Filippo Dinacci on behalf of Ilva in extraordinary administration against the provision with which the judge Francesco Maccagnano - on 31 July - had rejected the request for faculty use of the Altoforno 2 of the ArcelorMittal steel plant for the purpose of carrying out the work requested by the judicial custodian. The decision avoids the shutdown that was scheduled by October 10th.

Turning off the Afo2 would have caused a reduction in production levels with employment consequences. With the acceptance of the precautionary appeal, the Review Court ordered a 3-month deadline for detailed design and execution of the works.

Ilva lawyers in As in recent days had also presented an application for faculty of use to the same judge Maccagnano, before which on October 1 the trial on the incident will begin, which in June 2015 cost the life of the worker Alessandro Morricella, hit by a blaze of incandescent cast iron while measuring the casting temperature of the Altoforno 2. The extinction was ordered by the Public Prosecutor after the magistrate Pompeo Carriere had rejected the request for release from seizure because the provisions imposed following the accident they had been only partially fulfilled.
