20 September 2019In Austria, the topic of the double passport for the citizens of South Tyrol belonging to the German language group is once again discussed.

Yesterday evening the Austrian Parliament with the votes of the OVP, the popular leaders and former Chancellor Sebastian Kurz following the Ibizagate case, and the FPO, the party of the populist right wing of Norbert Hofer, relaunched the theme of dual citizenship for the South Tyrolean, residents in the province of Bolzano.

Thus the amendment was approved, which provides for the Interior Minister of Vienna, Wolfgang Peschorn, to start new talks with his Italian counterparts, in Rome and Bolzano. The leader of the
Alto Adige liberals said "an important step has been taken".

Now it's up to the Suedtiroler Volkspartei (SVP) and to the governor of the autonomous province of Bolzano Arno Kompatscher to take action to strengthen this initiative from Austria.
