LONDON (Reuters) - Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg held a "good and constructive meeting" with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday, Facebook said.

Facebook spokesman Daniel Roberts said in an e-mailed statement that Zuckerberg "met with policymakers at a meeting in Washington to hear their concerns and talk about regulating the Internet in the future."

"He also had a good and constructive meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House."

"I had a good meeting with Facebook's (CEO) Mark Zuckerberg in the Oval Office," Trump said in a tweet on Twitter, without giving details.

Earlier Thursday, Zuckerberg met with several Republicans, including Josh Hawley and Senator John Cornin.

On Thursday, Zuckerberg defended his company's practices for several of his most critical critics in Washington over concerns they would not take strong enough measures to prevent voter manipulation of the social networking site before the next presidential election in 2020.

The company has been criticized for allowing controversial Russian-backed pages to run ads to influence the 2016 US presidential election that brought Trump to the White House.
