It is a complicated - but fatal - issue. Before the end of October, politicians in the various health committees in the Västra Götaland region must agree with the hospital management on how much care is needed 2021-2022 and what it will cost. The care agreements are made every two years and are some of the most important political decisions made in the region.

In recent years, the Social Democrats have voted for the care agreements, despite being in opposition. Thanks to the Social Democrats, the minority government, with the Alliance and the environmental party, has been able to get through their care agreements.

But now it's over, says the Social Democrats' opposition council Helén Eliasson.

- Recently, we have received clear signals from the hospital management that they are very far from the M-board when it comes to the care agreements around the committees. There is a lot of pressure on health care now. Tough priorities from politics are required to provide equal care. And then we cannot accept these cuts that we have been told.

Risk of political chaos

Helén Eliasson states that the Social Democrats will in principle vote down the care agreements in all committees and boards where the issue will be raised in the coming weeks. The Left Party and the Sweden Democrats are also expected to vote down the Blue Greens' proposal. If that happens, it risks leading to a political crisis in the Västra Götaland region.

How do you see the risk that this will lead to political chaos and that the ruling minority may even fall?

- It is clear that there is a risk, but I hope we can avoid having to say no. We hope to invite you to a call so that we get a broad agreement on the care instead. If not, we are prepared to take responsibility.

SVT has repeatedly sought the chairman of the regional board Johnny Magnusson (M) and the Liberals' group leader Jonas Andersson for a comment, without getting answers. Tony Johansson (MP), Deputy Chairman of the Board of Health, agrees that a social democratic no would lead to political chaos.

- If there is not a care agreement based on the regional council's budget, then it is clear that it will be very difficult for the green-blue management to continue to govern. Then the question is whether there is a red-brown alternative instead of the Social Democrats and the Sweden Democrats, he says.

Opens for calls with S

He states that the Social Democrats have been part of several groups that have worked out parts of the care agreement. He is therefore amazed at the social democrats' play.

- It would have been good if they had talked about what they want to see instead.

Will you invite the Social Democrats to talks about the care agreement?

- We are always open to conversations. Then we will follow the regional council's budget.

The first Board of Health that is expected to make a decision on the care agreement is the Eastern Health Board, which has a meeting on Friday.
