“The countries of the Caspian Sea have shown consistency in their decisions, the desire for an equal dialogue and the equitable use of the region’s resources,” said State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin.

The Convention establishes the regime of shipping and the collective use of the Caspian Sea. One of its main principles is the absence of armed forces in this zone that do not belong to the document participants.

It is noted that ratification will make the relations of partners in the region more stable and predictable.

In late July, Russian President Vladimir Putin introduced the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea for ratification to the State Duma.
