80 deputies from all sides, led by environmentalists Delphine Batho and Matthieu Orphelin and Cédric Villani (LREM), tabled Thursday a bill to generalize the teaching of issues related to the preservation of the environment and climate change.

On the eve of new mobilizations of youth for the climate on Friday and Saturday, their text intends to respond to a call signed by some 80 leaders of higher institutions, and the "manifesto for an ecological awakening" initiated by students.

The proposed law aims to ensure that "higher education prepares all students for the vital challenges of the 21st century", by generalizing the teaching of issues related to the preservation of the environment and biological diversity and climate change ".

Parliamentarians observe that "climate-energy issues are still little taught, let alone in post-baccalaureate training".

"The Code of Education, and other regulatory texts concerning the missions of higher education, do not mention the responsibility of institutions in this area," they deplore. The 20-article bill intends to remedy this.

Among the signatories from the eight political groups represented in the Assembly and non-members, are the Chair of the Commission for Sustainable Development Barbara Pompili (LREM), the boss of the PS Olivier Faure, André Chassaigne (PCF), or Erwan Balanant (MoDem), Pierre-Yves Bournazel (UDI and independents), François Ruffin (LFI), Sylvia Pinel (Freedoms and Territories) and Nathalie Bassire (LR related).
