Former Tunisian President Zin el Abidin Ben Ali, overthrown in 2011 by a popular revolution that unleashed a wave of protests throughout the region known as the Arab Spring, has died Thursday in his exile from Saudi Arabia. This was confirmed by his lawyer, Munir Ben Salha, to the Tunisian media. "Ben Ali has just died in Saudi Arabia," where he escaped on January 14, 2011 , Ben Salha said.

Days ago rumors broke out about his death in local media, an extreme that denied the family. The death of the former dictator comes just four days after the second free presidential elections of the country's democratic era have been held in the country.
