The Dubai Criminal Court has ruled in absentia a three-year sentence against a European defendant, who threatened to expose a woman of her own nationality after he obtained pictures of her and text messages between her and her boyfriend from phones stolen from her car, and threatened to pursue her, whether in Dubai or in her country, if not Convince her boyfriend to return the money he borrowed from him.

According to investigations by the Public Prosecution, the defendant insulted the victim in obscene terms, stole three phones belonging to her boyfriend from her car without her permission and approval, and damaged parts of the car while the phones were stolen.

The victim said that she had intended to leave home, and before doing so she gave her car to her boyfriend but was surprised by the defendant calling her and telling her that he took the car. He also sent her a video containing her boyfriend's phones, which were in the car, pictures of her and text conversations with her boyfriend. He threatened to expose her to her family and social networks, and directed obscene statements, and she wrote a complaint against him at the police station.
