On September 16, Putin at a press conference following the summit of Russia, Iran and Turkey proposed that Saudi Arabia purchase S-300 or S-400 to ensure the security of its territory.

As the president emphasized, the Saudi leadership “is enough to make a wise state decision” - just like it was done in Iran by purchasing the S-300, and so “like President Erdogan did” by purchasing the S-400.

In February, it was reported that Moscow and Riyadh were conducting additional consultations on a contract for the supply of S-400.
