Tunisia's Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) announced yesterday the victory of law professor Qais Said and journalist Nabil Karoui in the first round of presidential elections.

The Supreme Commission, during a press conference, that the candidate Nabil Karawi received 15.5% of the vote, while the candidate Abdul Karim Zubaidi won 10.73% of the vote.

If Nabil Al-Qarawi wins the second round, he will declare his victory, as long as there is no final ruling against him from exercising his political rights or imprisonment for more than 10 years.

The Independent High Electoral Commission revealed that the number of registered voters is seven million and 74 thousand and 566 voters, while the number of voters who voted in the elections did not exceed three million and 465 thousand and 184 voters. She added that the number of votes authorized is three million and 372 thousand and 746 votes.

As for the canceled votes, it reached 68,125, while the number of white ballots reached 24,855.

Polling stations in Tunisia opened their doors on Sunday to voters to choose the seventh president of the Republic of Tunisia from 26 candidates, succeeding the late President Beji Kaid Essebsi. The Commission announced, earlier, that the turnout reached 27.8%, two hours before the closure of polling stations.
