For more than two and a half years, the United States has lacked an ambassador to Sweden. Instead, the United States has had several temporary managers.
Already in October 2018, Trump nominated billionaire and Paypal founder Ken Howery as a new ambassador. He is on Forbes list of the world's richest, but only on Tuesday was he approved by the Senate.
- A regular ambassador has greater weight as well as better access to the president's ear than an acting one. They thus tend to be able to represent their country with greater degrees of freedom, the Foreign Ministry's press communicator Rasmus Eljanskog has said in a previous interview.
