In Mali, the 38th Monitoring Committee of the Algiers Peace Agreement (CSA), to be held on 17 September in Kidal, has been postponed.

For the first time, a follow-up committee to the Algiers Peace Agreement (CSA) was to be relocated and the choice of Kidal, in the north of the country, adopted at the last meeting of the committee, was highly symbolic. But on September 16, the day before the CSA, the president of the international mediation, the Algerian Ahmed Boutache, informed the various members of the CSA that the planned meeting was postponed.

This decision comes as the ambassador of Niger to Mali, who sits on the CSA, has himself decided not to participate in this meeting. On several occasions in recent weeks, Nigerian President Mahamadou Issoufou has singled out Kidal as a source of instability for the Sahel. And the extraordinary summit of ECOWAS on security in the Sahel , which was held this weekend in Ouagadougou, came to remind that Kidal was part of the Malian territory.

"Strategy of demonization"

In this northern city, the cancellation of the CSA causes much resentment. " It's a strategy of demonization, " said Mossa Ag Attaher, spokesman for the CMA, the Coalition of Movements of Azawad, a signatory of the Algiers agreement, who regrets that Bamako is influenced.

On the government side, it is said that the CFS report has nothing to do with regional diplomacy. It is more a matter of domestic politics, whereas in a few weeks the "great national dialogue" will begin. " Do not believe that in Kidal the situation is normalized , says a government source. Even if they are real, the efforts have not yet produced all their effects .

The 38th session of the CFS should be held in Bamako before the end of next week. Currently, the CMA does not intend to participate.
