The retail trade in Halmstad had sales of SEK 7.3 billion last year - an increase of four percent, or SEK 267 million, since 2017. This means that the municipality had the strongest growth in the county and the second strongest growth in the whole country after Södertälje.

Fight the flow of customers

A major contributing factor to the municipality combing the silver site is the shopping center Hallarna, which opened its doors a little outside of town almost two years ago.

Center Manager Niklas Santesson writes in a press release that the mall has generated many new jobs and had a steady stream of visitors since opening.

At the same time, several stores in the city center of Halmstad have struck again or moved recently. The result has been that several premises now gap empty in the center.

Falkenberg at the top

Although Halmstad had the best growth, it was not the municipality that made the most money in the county during 2018. The first place took Falkenberg with SEK 8.1 billion. Kungsbacka came in third place with SEK 5.1 billion.

Retail sales in the county totaled SEK 26.3 billion last year - an increase of three percent since 2017.

In Sweden as a whole, physical retail sales amounted to SEK 674 billion in 2018, figures from HUI Research show.
